He lost me with the first sentence, where he confused the desktop environment with applications that run in it.

I agree, though at times Xfce Devs themselves seem to elide the differences between the two. He's a big fan of KDE, and that *colors* his approach all of us using Xfce. Still, there are some points that he makes worth thinking about.
