when i booted up, today, i found that one of my users, named "pdh" had reverted back to unity. this was odd. so i went to check the files in /var/lib/AccountsService/users and found that 11 users had "Xsession=xubuntu" removed and one of those 11 also had the background image changed. other users had not been changed. so i fixed these and put "Xsession=xubuntu" back in.
then i rebooted.
this time, user "admin" was switched from unity (which i still need to have it use until i have time to convert my setup system to xfce) to xfce. so i wondered if had accidentally put "Xsession=xubuntu" in /var/lib/AccountsService/users/admin. i checked, and found that i had not. so i logged out hoping i could find a way to select unity at the login screen. i still could not so i just logged back in to "admin". this time, it reverted back to unity. but /var/lib/AccountsService/users/admin is not changed.
any ideas what is going on?
it seems lightdm has some AI ... Artificial Idiocy ... going on.
