How to disable the mouse pad?

i am wondering if Xfce has a means to disable the mouse pad.  i could not find any such means under Unity.

You can try the standard method: Settings > Mouise and Touchpad, Devices tab, and simply disable it.

A much more useful method we have found is to install touchpad-indicator if it is in the repo of the distro you are using. Great little app installs an icon into the Notification area and user just clicks to toggle touchpad on and off. I believe a Gtk3 version is under development.

There may be similar apps outside the Debian family.
