How to I change XFCE's screensaver to anything other than Xscreensaver

I don't like Xscreensaver. How do I replace it with another screensaver?

Re: How to I change XFCE's screensaver to anything other than Xscreensaver

Greetings!

While this suggestion isn't exactly on-point, Peter Levi's "variety" background-/wallpaper-changer is highly configurable and downloads images from many different sources. Imho, well worth a try (i've installed it on all my family's and friends' systems).

Cheers, m4a

@mint4all Although Variety can work as a screensaver, it does it using an extension, named variety-slideshow, which is a little bit harder to install, specially outside of Ubuntu.

@Doctype_ You should give us some more info (like what distro you're using, at least), but my take would be that you can uninstall xscreensaver and install an alternate screensaver without much trouble, be it Variety, Light Locker, Cinnamon/Gnome/MATE screensaver, etc.

That said, what is it that you don't like about xscreensaver? I wouldn't like to recommend you a new program that has the same —or worse— annoyances as the old one!

Sorry about that, I'm suing Ubuntu. And thanks for the tip! I'll try that.

I just don't like the way Xscreensaver looks. It looks like it hasn't been updated since the 90s.

Xscreensaver is actively updated, what version are you running? It's true that it's a program from the 90s, though, and its a very opinionated program (and author!).

But I thought it isn't the default in Ubuntu/Xubuntu for some years now (from 14.04 IIRC), is it?

Not Ubuntu actually, Ubuntu uses LightLocker I think. Xubuntu, LXDE, and LXQt use Xscreensaver.

Also I'm using Ubuntu 18 LTS (Cosmic Cuddlefish). AMD64 architecture, if that is of any use to you.
