Running java jar files from the console is done via "java -jar". In your example:
java -jar ~/Downloads/Mineshafter-launcher.jar
"man java" has more information.

Funny. We got so annoyed at users having to go through this hoop (find out what it needs, open a terminal, get into the right path, use the right syntax, etc.) that we have created a desktop file for the upcoming Beta of MX-16 that allows the user to simply click on the file, like everything else. Did the same for py files.

so what do id to be able to do that?

Do a Google search on "open jar file with single click" or something similar, which is what I did and the answer was on the first page.
What distro are you running?

Sorry, but you need to do some basic reading about Linux. Try doing a web search on both your questions--they have nothing to do with Xfce.
