As part of the ongoing research on the topic of configuration systems in free and open source software here at Vienna University of Technology, we would like to invite you to participate in this short survey. In a pilot study people only needed 15 minutes, promised!
By supporting us through this survey, you help the research by providing relevant input on this topic.
In addition the anonymised results will be released under an open licence, so other projects with involvement in configuration in free and open source software can benefit from it too.
In addition the results will be anonymised and made freely available.
Just leave your address at the end of the survey and we will send it to you.
For further questions regarding this survey or interest in the research of configuration systems feel free to contact as at survey@libelektra.org.
If you have not done it yet, we would appreciate if you take our survey http://elektra.limequery.org/625192 before the 18.07.2016.

I saw where you posted the same thing to one of the Xfce email lists - and that someone replied, asking why you posted your request from a Gmail account instead of (presumably) your official university email account. The person that was replying made the statement that this did not help your credibility :rolleye: .
I haven't seen your response - if any - yet. Like the person who wrote the above question and observation, I eagerly await your response.

Your concerns are completely legit and reasonable, but I'll try to give you some answers.
It is correct that one of our group has posted the survey on the mailing list (as stated in the survey introduction, we are a group of students working on our thesis). We split the work of posting it to appropriate audiences because it requires some work to do so, obviously. We also put a lot of effort into the survey and did a pilot study in our near environment (collegues and friends) before sending it out to you.
The reason we do not use our university emails is that the email accounts will be deleted / taken from us after we graduate (and do not stay for further studying/research) and maybe also because some of us have already subscribed some mailing lists before. Losing an email may not be a big deal for a mailing list, but for accounts in boards it actually may be, so we tried to avoid that. Your point of using an official email is quite valid though, I have to admit.
To give you some connection to our university, our advisor linked the survey next to the underlying project (Elektra) on his profile/website: http://www.complang.tuwien.ac.at/raab/
We are really sorry if the survey may have looked like spam to you, this was never intended.
