Logged out when configuring dual screen

Hi folks

I just installed a new Wily with Xfce on a laptop. I use a second screen, plugged in HDMI, and the nvidia proprietary drivers, as the open default drivers make Chrome go black.

When I log in with the HDMI plugged in, I am immediately logged out. I then unplug, log in, plug again. I can use the default setting "extend to the right", but if I try the advanced setting to have the laptop on the right and the large screen to the left, I'm logged out again, the whole session is killed.

I tried this through the gui as well as and xrandr command, no difference.

I'm not sure which of my conf files would be useful to answer this question. I'm open to any idea you may have.
