[Solved] xfce 4.10 -> 4.12

Hello there
the OS I use is Debian 8.2
Is it a good idea to upgrade from xfce 4.10 to xfce 4.12 since it is a "stable" version?
And in case yes, how can I do that?

No, Xfce 4.12 is not a "stable" version of Debian.

Xfce 4.10 is part of Debian Jessie, which is currently the "stable" branch of debian. Xfce 4.12 is part of Debian Stretch, which is currently the "testing" branch of Debian.

No, Xfce 4.12 is not a "stable" version of Debian.

There is some confusion here. Xfce is the DE, not the OS. Both Debian Jessie and Xfce 4.12 are characterized by their developers as stable, and putting them together destabilizes nothing. We are in late beta testing of MX-15, which does exactly that, and have found nothing to suggest systematic problems. Each has its own residual problems, of course, but their interaction causes no additional problems that we have found.

Easiest way I know is to enable our repos, upgrade, and disable.

but what is the repository to add? deb http://main.mepis-deb.org/mx/repo/ mx15 main ? else?

XFCE 4.12 is now "unstable" or "experimental" (2015 dec 10) ? I can't find the correct information.

That's it. I'm not sure where you have that information about Xfce, but we have been using it since March without any problems. No one had trouble with the upgrade, but just be sure to back up the home folder in case you want to return to 4.10.

You could <cough> also just download the latest beta (due in a couple of days) and take a look at the whole distro...was rated one of the best 4 Xfce distros this year.

I think he's referring to the fact that Xfce is currently not in the Debian "stable" branch that he's running.

an update
a dist-upgrade
and it was successfull!
