Re: What's New in Xfce

Just installed Xfce 4.12 on one of my Gentoo boxes. Great new functionality. Already pointed out here extensively by ToZ. However, I find the new release especially awesome due to the fact that a long term user like me, who has been using this DE since version 4.4, can still set up everything the way he/she wants it to be. I would like to thank everyone who has been contributing to this and former releases. An awesome piece of software. Thank you very much.

I misread that for just a second <SHUDDERS>.

[MDM Increases font size 2x, lol.]

EDIT: Hey, wait a minute! That's kind of scary even after I made the text large enough to read it correctly. lol

I hope it's still enabled by default. I set linux up for people occasionally, and that has turned out to be a popular feature.

From reading that bug report, I think the "issue" was that one person was unable to "quickly shade and unshade" their application windows without dragging his mouse sideways in the process. <WALKS AWAY, SHAKING HEAD>

Re: What's New in Xfce

In interesting commit came through for xfwm. Desktop icon text can now be centered.

DJkL2rzl.png

Note: requires the presence of the center-text xfconf setting:

/desktop-icons/center-text                                             true

...and that ellipsize-icon-labels is turned off:

style "xfdesktop-icon-view" {
    XfdesktopIconView::ellipsize-icon-labels = 0
}
widget_class "*XfdesktopIconView*" style "xfdesktop-icon-view"

I'm not aware of this bug. You can manage which players show up in indicator-sound applet by using the dconf-editor (you may need to install it first) and editing the contents of com>canonical>indicator>sound>interested-media-players. For example, to add vlc to the list, I changed:

['gmusicbrowser']

...to read:

['gmusicbrowser','vlc']

This was for Xubuntu, but I believe Mint works in the same way.

Re: What's New in Xfce

THANK YOU! (Yes, I am shouting, lol.) I had been assuming it was either a bug or one of those "features" like the low-cost airline seating where you're apparently supposed to pack your legs along with your other luggage, vehicles that spoke to you as if you didn't get enough nagging from being married, or other various nefarious and questionable improvements(?) that developers sometimes toss in to (I suppose) show the world that, regardless of the quality of the work, "At least we've done something," lol. Or maybe that's just the guys who develop Firefox....

I will nip that set of extra - and extra-useless - media app controls in the bud. Thanks again.

MDM

Xfce4 Notes Plugin provides a quick way to paste text, to write down a
list of things, to leave a note to a friend, or whatever is common to do
with Post-It's.

Website:
  http://goodies.xfce.org/projects/panel- … tes-plugin

Release notes for 1.8.0
=======================

VERSION 1.8.0

This release comes in conformance with the latest Xfce 4.12.

NB: This release is provided with CCode built from Vala and targets GTK+2 only. GTK+3 requires building from Git.

- Dependencies: match Xfce 4.10 requirements.
- Vala: Compilation fixes, and fixed build for GTK2 and GTK3 to work together.
- GTK3: Added support for GTK3 and theming through GtkCssProvider, it's still missing features from GTK2 code, and doesn't build a panel plugin. Build with --enable-gtk3 from Git (dist do not permit to rebuild from Vala.)
- Settings: New hidden notes-path setting tweakable through xfconf.
- Monitor: Add monitoring of notes files to allow hot-edition and refresh in notes windows.
- Other misc fixes.
- Updated translations: all of them, lots of them!

Patches welcome!
