Re: What's New in Xfce

I've stopped posting all the bug fixes. There's been a flurry of them lately and its hard to keep up. You can always see them yourself by clicking in this link. I just wanted to drop a post about some recent xfwm4 bug fixes/enhancements that have caught my eye:

- Add new default themes (To better integrate with GTK3/GNOME apps. Also include hdpi and xhdpi variants.)
- Add support for GTK frame extents (This is required for proper positionning and resizing of CSD windows from GTK3/GNOME.)
- Fix fullscreen mode not working correctly for QT apps (bug #8563)
- Add support for NET_WM_STATE_FOCUSED (bug #11067)
- Remove maximize button from non-resizable windows (bug #10910)
- Fix maximizing when window is tiled vertically or horizontally (bug #10084)
- Extremely paranoid hostname lookup (bug #11289)

xfce4-taskmanager has also seen alot of changes lately.

Are you using the development version of xfce-screenshooter? Because if you're still using the stable 1.8.1 version then, no, that version is still the same as it was last week.

Re: What's New in Xfce

Thunar now has the ability to display file sizes in regular MB (as other OS's/DE's do) as well as its regular MiB:

Binary unchecked (MiB - 1000):

Binary checked (MB - 1024):

EDIT: This is bug #10864.

You're assisting in the perpetuation of a fallacy.

Just thought I'd mention that.

I still appreciate you're updates on the state of XFCE development, though. smile

Re: What's New in Xfce

Interestingly, with compositing disabled, there currently doesn't seem to be window previews:
EFOUUdil.png

Also, there doesn't appear to be a configuration option to control it. Its still in heavy development though.

Just to add that there is another feature not documented in the release notes but on one bug report bug ·8445. Now you can customize the name of the file under

.config/xfce4/xfce4-screenshooter

with a field title and a boolean timestamp which controls whether you want the timestamp at the end or not.

Re: What's New in Xfce

Hi,

I'm the maintainer of the Slackware-based Microlinux Enterprise Desktop (http://www.microlinux.fr/mled.php), which uses Xfce as desktop environment. I understand that since the release of 4.10, there have been quite some changes brewing under the hood. Do you guys plan an official release in a foreseeable future? The next Slackware release won't be too long, and it would be sad if this didn't include all the new Xfce improvements.

Cheers from the sunny South of France.

AFAIK, a 4.12 release is coming. However, I'm not sure when. It would be best to direct this question to the xfce4-dev mailing list.

Re: What's New in Xfce

I know this is ToZ's thread, but he may be away and I think the Community would be interested in knowing that the last couple of days have witnessed the devs moving toward agreeing to a concrete release date for Xfce 12. The selected date is...wait for it...the weekend of Feb 28-Mar 1, a bit more than 3 weeks away!

Ever since that internal announcement the dev wires have been humming with discussions of critical bugs to get fixed by that date, default theme, etc. It's about to get very busy and very interesting around here.

WOOT!
