Hi Folks
(My first post so be gentle)
I use XFCE on my Mythbuntu server and my laptop.
On Mythbuntu, XFCE version 4.8 is installed and comes with xfce4-terminal 0.4.8
However, on my Gentoo laptop, with XFCE version 4.10, I cannot find xfce4-terminal.
I would really rather have xfce4-terminal than Gnome Terminal.
Has xfce-terminal been removed from 4.10, or am I just being silly and have missed installing a package in Gentoo?!
Thanks.
:-)

It's not dead but its latest release is still 0.4.8

May be on Gentoo, xfce's terminal is not named xfce4-terminal ? Try terminal or Terminal may be ?
Edit : see here http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Xfce#Terminal_emulator

Xfce is NOT Xubuntu. Bugs in Xubuntu don't mean that Xfce is buggy ...

BTW, that wiki is outdated regarding starting Xfce with startx. It should be
exec startxfce4 --with-ck-launch

Ah, yes... found it. It IS in Gentoo but marked as incompatible with the 4.10 release :-(
# emerge -pv xfce-utils

I wonder why the xfce4-terminal has been held back from being in the 4.10 release...
...you would have thought a terminal would be high on the list of software people use in Linux?!?
Oh well, as there is no point in going backwards to 4.8... I will have to keep waiting...
:-(
Thanks for all your replies.

I have had an afterthought...
...instead of installing xfce-utils from the Gentoo ebuild, I COULD maybe just untar it and compile by hand to give me what I want?

# ebuild /usr/portage/xfce-base/xfce-utils/xfce-utils-4.8.3.ebuild test
OK, this worked and compiled what I thought contained it, but alas cannot find xfce4-terminal binary...
# find /var/tmp/portage/xfce-base/xfce-utils-4.8.3/ -type f -iname '*terminal*'
...so which package is it in?
:-O

All these questions depend on Gentoo package managing so you will have better chance in Gentoo forum.

OK, so I asked in the Gentoo Forums and found it... a combination of my laziness and slightly awkward package naming IMHO...
I naturally and WRONGLY assumed it would in the xfce-base/ or xfce-extra/ category... or maybe pulled in by the 'xfce4-meta' package...

this is why terminal need a rename to xfterminal or any other
how you see name clash now exist for other terms...and mayve xfterminal need a little of code like mousepad now
