Xfce 4.61 under Ubuntu 9.10 (installed from the MinimalCD, not Xubuntu!) and Puppy Linux 4.31, on an old Fujitsu Lifebook P2110.

Re: Which distribution do you run Xfce on?

I have been using Linux for about a year, now.

Started with Ubuntu, then switched to LinuxMInt and Xfce.
I have every Linux distro that has Xfce as the default desktop.
And even a few that don't.

I currently have a tri-boot on my PC.
My main OS is : Debian 'testing' with Xfce built from a net.install.
Also, have LinuxMint-8 Xfce CE just released
and Xubuntu Lucid 10.04 Alpha3

My old laptop has NOP PuppyLinux 4.3.1 (Xfce)

Hi, vrkalak.

So, on your PC, how do the 3 XFCE distros compare?

I built the Debian 'testing' -Xfce from a net.install.
I tried loading every repro on the internets into it.  Crashed and burned.
Built it again ... finally have it where I want it.
But, because it is a basic core Debian 5.0 with 'testing' repros and  Xfce ... with as few outside Xfce dependancies, as possible ... hence, it is very fast.

Xubuntu 10.04 Lucid is still in Alpha 3 release.  I like what the Ubuntu/Xubuntu devs have done so far.  I believe, that the new Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 LTS release will be the best they've ever done.  It seems that the Ubuntu devs are finally realizing that Xfce works better with out all the Gnome bloat and dependencies.

LinuxMint-8 Xfce CE, is basically, a Xubuntu 9.10 with all the extra Codecs added, and several additional 'tweaks' that the Mint devs have done.  So it is prettier and little faster than Xubuntu.  Mint-8 Xfce was just release this week, so it's pretty new and I haven't had much time to play with it, yet.

I thought, that Fedora 12-Xfce was the faster of the mass produced Linux distros out there.
Unless you count ArchLinux with the Xfce Desktop Environment.  Lightening fast but I thought the hardest to configure.

Re: Which distribution do you run Xfce on?

Many thanks. I'm pretty happy with my stripped-down Xubuntu 9.10 on a fast laptop and it sounds like I'll be just as happy with 10.04 LTS.

Re: Which distribution do you run Xfce on?

#! Crunchbang/Linux which has traditionally been an Openbox distribution based on Ubuntu.  However, with the new #! -- expect some big changes with their new release.

Crunchbang-10 Codenamed: Stater has switched to being based off Ubuntu, to using Debian Squeeze as it's base.
It now comes with either Openbox Wm or the Xfce desktop environment.

Xfce in Debian Squeeze is how a light-weight desktop should be ... light and fast.  Very fast.   cool  Also, comes in either 32 or 64-bit versions.

http://crunchbanglinux.org/downloads/statler/alpha-01/

Apparently, the #!Crunchbang Devs have fallen in love with Xfce.

Ubuntu or Ubuntu Alt (Command Line Only) with xfce4.  I used to use Xubuntu, but gave up on it, started getting too bloated.

Re: Which distribution do you run Xfce on?

It seems so long ago when I was getting Xfce to work on the EeePC 701's default Xandros, which it did, but now I'm running it on Crunchbang Statler, based on Debian as I reckon you've heard.  It's smooth, fast, clean-looking and oh, yeah, stable.   ;D

I'm real happy to see the developers here at Xfce continuing to improve their product.  It works so well that I can't remember ever having any issues with it!  Thanks!   smile

Re: Which distribution do you run Xfce on?

I've had Xfce on here on Xubuntu, Linux Mint, and currently on PC/OS, which comes with Xfce 4.6.1.  Most recently, I was running Linux Mint 8 Xfce edition until I ran into a VERY nasty bug with it where, if I had the screen resolution at anything less than the maximum 1600x900, Mint Xfce would refuse to let me log in.  That right there was a BIG-TIME deal-breaker, for obvious reasons.

I then did a search on DistroWatch for Debian-based distros with Xfce.  I found myself debating between DreamLinux and PC/OS.  In reading the reviews, I decided that PC/OS sounded like the better choice, so I gave it a try.  I even checked it out on my wife's laptop and found that it could even properly configure the Broadcom wireless card in it.  That Broadcom wireless card had been a BEAR to configure in Ubuntu and Mint but worked right out of the box with PC/OS.  That made me decide right then and there that PC/OS was THE official distro hopper-stopper for me, which I promptly installed to our two desktop units as well as to my flash drive for whenever I wanna use the laptop (my wife still insists on using that Redmond-made virus that masquerades as an operating system LOL).

Re: Which distribution do you run Xfce on?

I'm about to install Fedora 20 w/Xfce on my laptop.

I am liking the idea of Fedora's more unmodified-upstream version over the customized openSUSE version.

Ubuntu and derivitives don't work on this laptop due to the PAE requirement in kernels after Ubuntu 12.04 alternate.  I guess I could go to Xubuntu 12.04 but why paint myself into a corner if I know I cannot upgrade beyond 12.04?

Toyed with Xubuntu - very attracted to SolydX ( still am) - but thought why not go back to source so now using Xfce 4.8.0 on Debian Wheezy installed from Debian live ISO Xfce version.

Running it on the new MX-14: very solid, very fast, very simple.

MX-23 (based on Debian Stable) with our flagship Xfce 4.18.

Re: Which distribution do you run Xfce on?

Ubuntu 12.04 ... and I'm surprised how rare 'ubuntu' is in the replies.  Maybe I should consider a different/better distribution for my needs?  (I use my computer to do work.)

Out of curiosity, I know that Xfce has only officially released 4.10. I also know that Xubuntu 14.04 uses what they are calling 4.11 which is basically 4.10 plus a number of bug fixes and enhancements from the Xfce git tree. How does Korora bring in Xfce 4.11? Is someone building special packages for this distro? I notice from Korora's distrowatch page that it lists xfdesktop 4.10 as the standard package.

That's correct, but there is a 4.11 COPR repo for 4.11 for Fedora, which Korora is a remix of, https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs/no … c/xfce411/.
The official Korora release is still 4.10 and will stay that until a new version is released to Fedora stable.

Was using Ubuntu, but had too many problems. Switching to Slackware got rid of all of the problems Ubuntu was causing.
